La plupart d'entre eux sont à même d'apporter des éléments indispensables à une meilleure connaissance des enjeux européens : fiches de synthèse, fiches pratiques, articles de réflexion, débats en ligne...

The Internet is an unbeatable way to have access to information, particularly regarding Community policies and the European institutions. There are a great many websites covering the European Union; most of them offer invaluable data to people who need comprehensive information on European issues, including analyses, practical files, opinions and online debates...

European Identity Debate: Yuriy ANDRUKHOVYCH

43091 08 What are roots of European identity? What does European identity mean today and how is it related to European integration? How can the Council of Europe help foster positive European identities?

Yuriy ANDRUKHOVYCH, Ukrainian novelist and poet, co-author of "My Europe", introduced the second session of Debates on European Identity with a presentation on "Europe: Culture at the Edge of the World, or who are the losers?" on Tuesday 9 April 2013.

Organised by the Council of Europe and École Nationale d'Administration (ENA), the debates on European Identity invite eminent personalities from politics, civil society and academia to examine current thinking and dynamics behind the concept of European identity. Those conferences provide a conceptual basis to explore the ways in which the Council of Europe and ENA can contribute to building constructive European identities and to promoting integration through their activities.

Résumé :
Plus qu’un concept abstrait ,l’identité européenne est la résultante d’une multitude de facteurs agissant dans le temps et dans l’espace . Partant de l’histoire et de l’expérience récente de la construction européenne, cette brève étude s’efforce de cerner une réalité complexe et contradictoire qui démontre la singularité de l’identité européenne, à la fois passive et active tout en restant seconde par rapport à l’identité nationale. C’est sur cette singularité et la nécessaire coexistence de deux identités complémentaires mais , pour l’heure, irréductibles l’une à l’autre qu’il est proposé de centrer la réflexion afin de montrer, dans un premier temps, les déboires auxquels s’exposerait une conception mal comprise de l’identité européenne et, dans un deuxième temps, le rôle positif qu’elle peut et doit jouer à l’avenir dans une dialectique constructive avec les identités nationales.

Karsten ALNAES, Norwegian historian, author of "The History of Europe" inaugurated a new series of Debates on European Identity on Tuesday 12 March 2013, 2.15 pm. Professor Alnaes spoke about “The Roots of European Identity: Challenges and Threats”.

Organised by the Council of Europe and l’Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA), the Debates on European Identity will also provide a conceptual basis to explore the ways in which the Council of Europe and ENA can contribute to building constructive European identities and to promoting integration through their activities.
